It’s Mailbag Friday! How can my church be more thoughtful for those of us without children?

It’s Mailbag Friday! You have questions. We have answers.

If you have any questions, comments, conundrums, snarks, or ideas send them to [email protected].

Segment 1

My wife and I began visiting a PCA church in 2020. In late 2021, my wife had a miscarriage and we have not been able to conceive since. It is hard to be encouraged when you are reminded that all other church couples have been blessed with a child after losing yours. Church events are all kid-centered, and for the last family picnic, there was an email correction sent the day before saying that those without kids could also attend. We felt like an afterthought. What can I do? Is there room for my church to improve? -Ben

Segment 2

At what age should parents begin disciplining their children? -Anonymous

We have been talking about the topic of homosexuality in our youth group, and I was wondering what the Christian response should be to unbelieving visitors or occasional attendees of our church who live openly sinful lifestyles? -Issac

Segment 3

Why do we Protestants reject the use of crosses that still picture Christ on the cross? -Talia

While browsing antique Bibles on eBay, a satanic “bible” came up as one of the listings. Should a Christian ever consider buying something like this with the intent to burn it? -Peter

My wife works at a pro-life clinic and there was a change in the leadership a few months back. The new leader is also a pastor and occasionally preaches from the pulpit when the elder pastor is not available. The problem here is that the new leader is a woman. Our question is, should she continue to work there? -J.J.

Hey, I’m planning to put up a table on my campus with a sign that says: “Why don’t you believe in Jesus?” The plan is to attract the lost and the people that have been hurt by or have misconceptions about Jesus. Is there any other way you think I could specifically approach and target these people? Also, while I’m out there, what tips can you give me to be the most effective steward of Christ? -Christian

Segment 4

Exodus 23:19 says, “You must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” Why was that a command, and does it still apply? -Ashley

I am dating this young woman and have thought about marrying her. A topic came up of changing the last name, and hyphenating the last name? I want her to have my last name but is it wrong is she doesn’t take it? -Hunter
